Agrobacterium is a plant pathogen that naturally transforms plants. It transfers a piece of its DNA, the T-DNA (transferred-DNA), to the nuclear genome of plant cells. There, the genes encoded by the T-DNA lead to tumour formation creating an ecological niche for the bacteria.
